Beginning Wednesday with Karen Handel, the Republican Women of Forsyth County plan to hear from all of the candidates for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Saxby Chambliss.
A former secretary of state and gubernatorial candidate, Handel has visited Forsyth in years past, but the luncheon will be her first trip for the Senate race.
“Karen has been really supportive of our Republican Women group in the past,” said Julie Tressler, club president. “There are a lot of good candidates in the race and it’s more important than ever that we make the right choices.”
According to Tressler, the club doesn’t make an endorsement until a Republican candidate has been elected by the state. Until then, it’s important for members to stay informed.
“We plan on having all the candidates in the senate race at some point,” said Tressler, noting some won’t be until 2014, since they’re serving in Congress.
The luncheon is open to the public, not just members, a point Tressler emphasized.
“I think it makes a huge difference [to see candidates in person] because you actually get to meet them and interact with them,” she said.
