We repeatedly hear from the president and Congress that we will not put “boots on the ground” in Syria.
This letter is neither in favor nor against bombing Syria. I do, however, believe that when our government uses the term “boots on the ground,” it de-humanizes and minimizes the sacrifice of the lives and limbs of our dedicated military men and women that will be thrown into harm’s way. Our government could just as easily use the term “cannon fodder.”
Please, please, as we consider our possible intervention in Syria, let’s look beyond the quick strike plan and consider the death and injury to our nation’s young men and women who valiantly serve.
