Raiders begin quest for second straight playoff berth

Records, rankings: North is 0-0 and unranked in Class AAAAAA; Cherokee is 1-0 and unranked in Class AAAAAA.

Series history: North leads 3-1.

Last meeting: North won 34-27 on Sept. 13, 2013.

What to know: Cherokee ran riot in the first half of a 42-7 win Friday at Chattahoochee. The Warriors recovered two fumbles and jumped out to a 28-0 halftime lead on the road. Quarterback Spencer Ashley completed 27 of 32 attempts for 308 yards and four touchdowns—three of them to receiver Andrew Harris (14 receptions, 222 yards). "They know their system well and they’re very explosive in what they do," North head coach Jason Galt said. "[Ashley] is a three-year starter in that spread system and knows how to get the ball to his playmakers."

North gets their regular season underway, looking for a second straight state playoff berth. The Raiders edged Hart County in a scrimmage last Friday. Galt’s team ran for more than 240 yards against Hart County. "The best way for us to stop this Cherokee offense will be to keep the ball out of their hands," he said. "If we can sustain drives, we’ve got a shot."
