South Forsyth at West Forsyth
When, where: Friday, 7:30 p.m., at The Den in Cumming.
Records, rankings: South is 6-0 overall, 5-0 in Region 6-AAAAAA and unranked; West is 4-2, 4-1 and unranked.
Series history: West leads 3-0.
Last meeting: West won 27-14 in 2014.
What to know: If South wants to remain undefeated, it will have to take down West for the first time in school history, on the road, in a “blackout” environment, against a football team that is almost a mirror image of the other. Both teams have stellar quarterbacks in Davis Shanley and Kiernen Hamilton; both teams have strong running backs in Sam Outlaw and Grant Torgerson; both teams have dynamic receivers in Jalen Camp and Austin Reid; both have dominant pass rushers in Cameron Kline and Eli Huggins.
The list goes on, really. Coach speak will tell you this game means just as much as any other region tilt, but the truth is South has not been tested to this point. The War Eagles are 6-0, but have zero clout in media polls so far because of a lack of competition. West can trade places with South in the region standings with a win. As hyped as this game is, Lambert is quietly sharing a seat with South at the top of the totem pole—for now.
Expect a close game, drama, and two very vocal student sections. See Twitter for that last part.
