Forsyth Community Bank is celebrating its five-year anniversary.

Founded by Andrew Walker as the First National Bank of Forsyth, the bank changed names when it was sold to Buckhead Community Bank in 2007.

Though Walker recently left to pursue a position with Alliance Bancshares in Dalton, Sam Story has taken over as the bank’s president and led a seamless transition, said Marvin Cosgray, chief executive officer of Buckhead Community Bank.

“Sam has done a great job,” Cosgray said. “The bank has grown ... even just this month, their deposits are up 6 percent.”

The bank offers free worldwide ATM access, high interest rewards on checking and a service that allows business to deposit checks from their offices.

Story said in a statement that it “has been exciting to be a part of the growth and development of Forsyth County over the past five years.”

“Residents and business owners are looking for a bank that will give them the personal attention they deserve, and we consider it a privilege to bring the best in banking services to Cumming,” he said.

Buckhead Community Bank, which opened in 1998, has eight banks under its name, including locations in Sandy Springs, Alpharetta, Hall County and Johns Creek.

Over the past decade, deposits have grown from $27 million to more than $755 million, and total assets have grown from $34 million to more than $900 million.

Cosgray said the Forsyth bank’s fifth anniversary is an indicator of its success.

“It means they’ve established themselves in that area and that they’ve built an excellent relationship with their customers,” he said.

“It shows the longevity and the staying power of the bank.”
