Firefighters responded to an early morning blaze at Smith Garden Products on Doc Bramblett Road.

No injuries were reported in an early morning fire at a landscape materials company in northwestern Forsyth County.

Forsyth County Fire Capt. Jason Shivers said a passer-by reported about 4:45 a.m. that there was a blaze at Smith Garden Products on Doc Bramblett Road, next to Fire Station 3.

“It had been burning for quite some time before the first 911 caller saw it,” Shivers said.

No one was at the business at the time.

Flames destroyed a wooden structure and caused heavy damage to a metal building and machinery, Shivers said.

Susan Cagle, plant manager, said the facility has 37 employees and has been in business for more than 30 years.

“We have a plan activated to begin operations as soon as we can get equipment moved into the area,” said Cagle, adding that the company was getting ready for the fall season when the fire occurred.

She said she hopes employees will be able to get back to work by Monday.

Shivers said the fire does not appear to be suspicious and the cause is under investigation.
