A crowd of about 400 gathered Saturday for Forsyth County government’s surplus auction.
Riding around with a microphone at the Canton Highway site, J.W. Smith of Evans Auctioneers went from vehicle to vehicle and item to item, stopping at each to quickly field bids.
In total, many of the 310 registered buyers spent about $277,000 on the various items, which ranged from cars trucks and mowers to office equipment and electronics.
Avery Gravitt, director of fleet services for the county, said proceeds from the event go to the county’s general fund, and other funds as directed by the finance department.
“We are very pleased with the outstanding turnout for the surplus auction,” he said. “We had wonderful weather for the event and Evans Auctioneers conducted a professional and efficient auction.”
