It appears money was on the menu early Monday as burglars reportedly struck a south Forsyth restaurant.

Forsyth County Sheriff’s Capt. Ron Freeman said authorities are investigating a burglary at the Steak ‘n Shake on Peachtree Parkway.

“We are looking for witnesses and we’re looking at video from cameras at surrounding stores to see what happened,” Freeman said. “At this point, we have a list of potential persons of interest that we’re looking into, but we don’t have any suspects to name as of yet.”

Freeman said the burglary likely happened sometime overnight. According to the restaurant’s Web site, the business is open daily from 10 a.m. to 1 a.m.

Deputies were called about 9:30 a.m. Monday. Freeman said there were no signs of forced entry and an undisclosed amount of cash was taken.

A manager at the eatery declined to comment on the case.

Freeman said investigators are considering the possibility that the burglary was an inside job.

“When you have a theft without forced entry, that’s something we always would look at,” he said. “That doesn’t mean that
an employee is responsible for it.

“You run the risk of someone having access, duplicate keys, former employees, current employees, any of those types of things. Even service providers who were able to acquire a key or something along those lines.”
