Three Forsyth County educators recently received grant funding from Sawnee Electric Membership Corporation.

The high school teachers — Benita Burruss of North Forsyth, Jessica Griffin of West Forsyth and Jennifer McCutchen of Forsyth Central — received Bright Ideas grants through Sawnee’s Operation Round Up.

Through the program, members can volunteer to round up their monthly electric bills and have the excess change go to community giving efforts.

During the fourth quarter 2013, a total of five Bright Ideas grants were given to teachers in Sawnee’s seven-county service area.

Burruss and Griffin used their grants to take students to a youth assembly event at the Georgia state capitol over Thanksgiving break, while McCutchen used her funding to create an outdoor classroom.

The other grants were awarded to teachers in Dawson and Fulton counties.
