The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reminds residents that its Sawnee Campground on Lake Lanier is open until March 24.

Campsites at the park, which is off Buford Dam Road in eastern Forsyth County, are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

According to the corps, campers can pick a site and pay at the self-service registration station, which is by the gatehouse.

Fees, rules and regulations and maps of the park and lake can also be found there.

The gatehouse is not staffed full time, but park rangers and camp hosts will make the rounds regularly.

After March 24, the campground will be closed for two weeks to prepare for the summer recreation season. Normal operations will resume April 11.
