Armed robbers strike Sun Suites in Cumming

CUMMING — Cumming police are working to identify two men suspected of robbing a motel at gunpoint earlier this month.

Armed with handguns, the suspects reportedly entered the Sun Suites office on Lake Center Parkway between Buford Dam Road and Atlanta Highway (Hwy. 9) about 4 p.m. May 6, according to Cumming Police Chief Casey Tatum.

They were described as black male teenagers wearing hooded sweatshirts that covered most of their faces, Tatum said.

According to an incident report, the suspects pulled the guns on the extended-stay motel manager and housekeeper, jumped the counter and made them hand over cash from the business.

No one was injured in the incident, though the suspects did flee with about $740 and a tablet.

The tablet was later found at the intersection of Lake Center Parkway and Hwy. 9.

The suspects may have left in a black, four-door pickup truck with dark window tint, according to the report.

The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office was asked to assist in the initial response with tracking dogs and a crime scene unit, though the city is handling the investigation, said Epifanio Rodriguez, a spokesman for the county agency.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to contact Cumming police at (770) 781-2000.
