Hall County Sheriff’s Office investigators are looking for a man who attempted to abduct a 10-year-old boy from the driveway of his home in East Hall this week.

The suspect being sought is described as a white man, about 6 feet tall, medium build, wearing black jeans and a white shirt, with his face covered by a black cloth, according to a statement released by Deputy Stephen Wilbanks, spokesman for the sheriff’s office.

The incident occurred around 4 p.m. Tuesday  at the 4500 block of Old Cornelia Road, according to Wilbanks. He said the child was taking a booster seat out to his mother’s vehicle in their driveway when a man approached him from behind.

The man allegedly grabbed the child and began dragging him toward the back of an adjacent home, but let go of the boy who was resisting, according to the statement. Wilbanks said the child ran into his home and told his mother, who called 911.  He was treated by responders from Hall County Fire Services for “minor scrapes and bruises,” but was not hospitalized, according to Wilbanks.

Deputies, investigators, and K-9 units responded to the scene. The K-9 teams tracked the suspect to an area of Roy Cagle Road, but the trail was lost, Wilbanks said.

Wilbanks added that “initial information does not indicate that the victim knew the perpetrator.”

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Criminal Investigations Division at 770-531-6879.  The statement also encouraged residents in the area “to exercise caution and remain alert for anyone demonstrating suspicious behavior.”

Wilbanks said the sheriff’s office is increasing patrol presence in the area in an attempt to find the suspect.
