An Alpharetta man pleaded guilty to felony vehicular homicide in Forsyth County Superior Court on Thursday.

Micahel Masi, 49, struck a pedestrian who was attempting to cross Hwy. 9 in south Forsyth on Nov. 16, 2012.

Authorities said 44-year-old Felix Escorcia had been walking home to the nearby Pine Ridge mobile home park when he was struck by Masi’s van.

Escorcia was taken to North Fulton Hospital, where he died from his injuries later that night.

Masi was arrested at the scene for driving under the influence of alcohol-less safe, but the charge was dismissed as part of his negotiated plea.

He was sentenced to five years, with 90 to 120 days in a probationary detention center and the remainder on probation.

Masi must also pay a fine of $3,320 and complete 120 hours of community service.
