A Dawsonville man was recently arrested after a gas station clerk fought him off during an attempted armed robbery in north Forsyth.
Rigoberto Arcos Catalan, 42, of Dawsonville, was charged with armed robbery and aggravated assault after he allegedly “brandished a knife and demanded cash from the [Sunoco Gas Station] register” around 10:20 p.m. Sept. 15, according to Deputy Doug Rainwater, a spokesman for the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office.
“The video footage showed the suspect and clerk fighting over the knife,” he said. “The clerk managed to push the silent alarm and the suspect fled the scene before law enforcement arrived.”
The clerk reportedly told deputies Catalan had come into the store a little after 10 p.m. where he remained until closing and said she knew him as a regular customer.
He was identified within 24 hours, Rainwater said.
An arrest warrant executed at his home yielded “clothing worn during the robbery.”
He currently remains in the Forsyth County Jail without bond.
