LAKE LANIER -- Search efforts continued Sunday for a 23-year-old Florida man missing in Lake Lanier, officials said.

Georgia Department of Natural Resources rangers and deputies from Forsyth Hall counties “were continuing surface searches and with sonar equipment around the clock” for Kevin Theodore Husum, of Panama City, Florida, but “the search area is large and the water is between 40 and 80 feet deep,” according to a news release.

The operator of a pontoon boat from which Husum fell was arrested after the incident.

Kenneth Toller of Cumming was charged with boating under the influence and taken to the Forsyth County Jail.

Forsyth and Hall County marine units responded to reports of the missing man around 5:55 p.m. Saturday in waters off Three Sisters Island.

Witnesses said the man fell off of a pontoon boat, went under and did not resurface, the DNR Law Enforcement Division reported.

Hall County Fire Services Marine Rescue personnel searched for an hour before calling the search, according to Fire Services Capt. Zachary Brackett.

One diver suffered an injury during the search and was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, and was in good condition, according to Brackett.

The DNR Law Enforcement’s Critical Incident Reconstruction Team will conduct an investigation into the incident. It is expected to take several weeks, spokesman Mark McKinnon said.
