CUMMING -- This weekend, a performance at the Cumming Playhouse will benefit seniors in Forsyth County.

This is the final weekend to catch “A Patriotic Salute to America and to Her Troops” at the Cumming Playhouse under the direction of Cumming City Councilwoman Linda Ledbetter. Performances will be held at 8 p.m. Friday, 3 and 8 p.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday.

“’Salute to America’ is a lively, patriotic-themed variety show, both refreshing and much-welcomed during our sometimes tumultuous political climate,” said Ruthie Brew, director of Forsyth County Senior Services. “The show reminds us of the challenges that the people of our great country have overcome to both create and protect and honor our country.”

Proceeds will be used for homebound seniors in the county’s Meals on Wheels program and for those in the congregate and respite day care activity programs at Charles Place.

“We are grateful to Age Well Forsyth and the cast and crew of ‘Salute to America’ for their hard work and beautiful spirits in supporting seniors in need,” Brew said. “They are truly making a difference in lives.”

Brew said the performance will feature uniforms, flags and song and dance from different eras.

Local performers Danny Pendley, a pianist, and the Sawnee Sapphire Dancers will participate in the show.

“It’s a feel-good show that will bring both tears and laughter,” Brew said. “There are multimedia historic presentations, skits, lots of musical numbers and dances and beautiful costumes. A noteworthy thing about this show is that every single person, cast and crew, is a volunteer and has put in countless hours to create the production that has been a year in the making.”

Tickets are $20 plus tax and can be purchased at the door or by calling (770) 781-9178. The Cumming Playhouse is located at 101 School St. at the former Cumming Public School.
