A Cumming Walmart will have a new feature to make picking up items a little easier.
Starting on Friday, Walmart Supercenter at 1500 Market Place Boulevard will be home to a Walmart Pickup Tower, “which functions like a high-tech vending machine and can fulfill a customer’s online order in less than a minute,” according to a news release.
The addition is part of a recent remodeling.
“The Pickup Tower pilot phase has been so successful Walmart is expanding it to additional locations across the country — and we’re proud to be just the fifth in Georgia,” said Cumming Store Manager Joe Manley in a news release. “And that’s just one of the exciting new things this store has to offer.”
Customers can pick items at the store’s website and select the “Pickup” option at checkout. The item will then be shipped to the store, where the customer can retrieve it by scanning a barcode sent to their cellphone.
Other improvements to the store include new interactive displays, brighter lighting, a redesigned baby department, an increase in self-checkouts and others.
The new pickup tower will work similar to those in Marietta and Duluth and is one of only five in the state.
“The biggest benefit of the tower is speed and convenience and that’s what Walmart is pushing,” said Evan Spessard, with Cookerly Public Relations. “Their delivery and the pickup systems save you both time and money.”
Spessard said he was not aware of plans to bring the towers to any other stores in the county.
