OAKWOOD — Someone has been killed after an incident with a train Friday afternoon near downtown Oakwood.

Norfolk-Southern called 911 reporting the incident at Main and Railroad streets, according to Nicole Bailes, a spokeswoman for the Hall County Sheriff’s Office.

Medical crews found a person dead when they arrived, according to Scott Cagle, spokesman for the Hall County Fire Services. Bailes said the subject was a 40-year-old man.

Some dozen deputies inspected the scene behind Metals USA, where the man’s body was covered with an orange tarp.

Investigators sprayed orange paint on the rock trail to the side of the train, marking points of interest for evidence collection.

A pocket knife was found near the body.

Bailes said it’s unclear whether the collision was intentional, but the sheriff’s office is investigating.

“Investigators will review the train’s surveillance footage and work closely with Norfolk to determine what occurred,” she said.
