NORTH FORSYTH - EDIT 5:00 P.M. The Hammonds Crossing intersection is now open to traffic.

The intersection of State Routes 306 and 369, known as Hammond's Crossing, is completely shut down Tuesday afternoon, and the traffic signals and supporting cables are down in the intersection.

Emergency crews are on the scene, and the Georgia Department of Transportation is working to repair the cables.

Some traffic is being diverted through a nearby Publix parking lot, according to officials on the scene, but other roads are being turned around as they get to the intersection.

Drivers are being asked to avoid the area until the problem can be repaired.
