5K to benefit United Way of Forsyth County
run

CUMMING — A local nonprofit wants Forsyth County residents to unite for a cause this fall. While running.

United Way of Forsyth County is holding the Run United 5K on Oct. 18 at the Lanier Technical College Forsyth Conference Center.

Sponsored by Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, the 5K/1K/Munchkin Run is open for registration at Active.com until 9 a.m. Oct. 15. Forms are available until Oct. 12, and those that are mailed must be postmarked by that date.

However, registration can be completed at the race for a higher entry fee. Both individuals and teams are welcome.

According to a news release, the organization encourages participants to “make your team stand out, so have fun and be creative.”

In the “spirit of friendly competition,” first-place team awards will be given for most participants — based on how many members are registered and paid by Oct. 15 — and fastest, which will be determined by the fastest man, woman and co-ed team competing in the 5K.

The five fastest chip times on the team will be recorded and averaged to determine the winner. Co-ed teams must have at least three women.

Individual awards will be given in various categories. Ribbons will be awarded to all 1K Fun Run and Munchkin Run participants.

The event will kick off with registration at 7:45 a.m. Oct. 18. The 5K will begin at 9 a.m., with the 1K starting at 10 a.m. and the free Munchkin Run beginning at 10:15 a.m.

Participants can pick up packets from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Oct. 16 and 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Oct. 17 at Academy Sports, 320 Peachtree Parkway.

Costs for the race are $25 per person for the 5K or $20 per team member with a minimum of five people per team.

The 1K Fun Run is $10 per person.

For anyone who signs up the day of the race, the entry fee is $30 per person for the 5K, and there is no team discount. The 1K is the same price regardless of registration time.
