FORSYTH COUNTY — A local nonprofit knows that kids love hunting for colorful, candy-filled plastic eggs on Easter, but their goal this holiday is for that love to continue through the years.

The Place of Forsyth County is accepting items through Thursday to help make Easter joyful for area seniors who are residents of local nursing homes.

“We are seeking donations to create Easter goodie bags for nursing home residents,” said Joni Smith, executive director of the community and emergency services nonprofit.

Items they will put in baskets to deliver to homes include adult slippers and socks for men and women, liquid bath soap and lotion (no bar soap or powders), individually wrapped candies, coloring books, word puzzle books, yam and Easter greeting cards.

“In past years, we have focused on providing Easter baskets to area children and will continue that effort,” said Ashley Carroll, a caseworker at The Place, “but the ability to brighten the day of a nursing home residents just adds to the joy of Easter.”

Gifts can be dropped off at The Place, 2550 The Place Circle, which is off Pilgrim Mill and Antioch roads.
