Deputies who responded to a call on Sawnee Mountain just before 10 p.m. spent several hours trying to get a man down from the top of one of the communications towers on top of the mountain.
Dozens of emergency workers, including deputies, firefighters, and crisis negotiators spent a tense five hours trying to get the man down from the tower.
Division Chief Jason Shivers said the man climbed down on his own at about 3:30 a.m. "He was initially unable to climb down due to the rain moving through.. That same heavy rain made it impossible for us to go up and assist him" Shivers explained. "We're just glad he's down safe and no one else was injured."
