BRASELTON — A 19-month-old Michigan boy was killed in an accident Sunday afternoon in Braselton.

David Emanuel Sirb died after being struck by an SUV after 3:30 p.m. Sunday in the cul-de-sac of Sahale Falls Drive, according to Braselton Police Department officials.

The accident occurred when Terei Conel stopped to speak with the child’s father, Emil Sirb, who was visiting relatives in The Falls of Braselton.

When the men stopped talking 10 minutes later, Conel asked if any children were around, Braselton Assistant Police Chief Lou Solis said.

The child’s father checked behind the Ford Expedition, giving the all-clear. Apparently at the same time, he wandered into the vehicle’s path and was struck.

A Forsyth County firefighter, who lived in the neighborhood, performed CPR while Gwinnett County emergency responders were called.

David was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center Braselton, where he was pronounced dead.

Georgia State Patrol’s Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team is investigating.

No charges are expected against the driver, Solis said, calling the accident a tragedy.

“It’s a tragic accident for both families,” he said.

A GoFundMe account was set up and has raised more than $20,000 for the family. The funds will assist with burial expenses. The community also has responded to assist with clothing for the family’s five other children to attend the funeral Wednesday.
