Runners and walkers are invited to support an organization that helps women with unexpected pregnancies.

The First Redeemer Sports Run for Hope Twilight 5K and 1 Mile Run/Walk will begin with registration at 3 p.m. Saturday at the church in south Forsyth.

All proceeds from the event will go to Whispering Hope, a nonprofit that helps women with unplanned pregnancies in a range of ways, such as providing free pregnancy and STD testing and prenatal care.

The resource center has helped some 300 women and teens in 2012.

Jackie Batson, the center director, said the run will be one of the largest fundraisers of the year for the organization.

“We’re not holding our annual banquet this fall like we typically have in the past, so that makes this become a more important event for us for fundraising,” she said.

Batson said the goal for the event is at least 250 participants, and about 130 have signed up so far.

She said the run will be fun for the whole family since it includes a 5K, 1-mile “fun run” and a “tot trot” for children.

“People should want to come out and run because it’s a great time for all the family to be involved,” she said. “It’s a great opportunity to support a very worthy and needed community service.”
