Woman unharmed in house fire

With some help from a neighbor, a woman safely escaped a fire Wednesday morning at her south Forsyth home.

The neighbor saw the flames at the Atlanta Highway (Hwy. 9) house and woke the woman up, said Forsyth County Fire Division Chief Kevin Wallace.

“She got out unharmed,” Wallace said. “It looked like we contained [the fire] to one room, of course there’s smoke damage throughout the home as well.”

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, he said.

Emergency responders received several 911 calls from passers-by about the blaze, Wallace said, since the home is on a well-traveled portion of Hwy. 9, just west of Fowler Park.

Authorities shut down traffic on the road for about an hour to allow access for the fire trucks, Wallace said. It reopened shortly after noon.
