Schools wrong on Obama speech

Forsyth County News
I just wanted to voice my disappointment that Forsyth County Schools chose to keep our president’s speech from my child.

Certainly my daughter can and will hear it later — but the power of hearing it at the same time as thousands of other kids across our country was taken from her. Ironic that the only way she could have heard the president of our country address her live, in a speech whose main topic was staying in school and working hard — was if I had chosen to take her out of school.

President Obama is the elected leader of our country. It is difficult for me to comprehend the fear and lack of respect that has surrounded this event.

I found the speech today very moving and inspiring and am sad that my daughter did not get to experience it as well.

I am cognizant of the fact that this is a “done deal” at this point, but I just felt a need to go on record with my opinion.
