Sacrifice ego for revenue

Forsyth County News
I read Mayor H. Ford Gravitt’s remark in your article “Cost of water may rise.” To quote “I was thinking and looking at some of our biggest water customers. For instance, we have Forsyth County. They have used the city of Cumming like a spare tire over the years.”

With all due respect to the mayor, and as a sales professional for more than 20 years, I understand how your largest customer can sometimes be your largest irritant. They are also your largest source of revenue and the one that ensures you meet your budget.

With that said, Mayor Gravitt would do himself and the city of Cumming well to parse his words and assume a more open posture in this negotiation. Forsyth County is already looking at other options including partnering with Hall County on a reservoir. These options could leave the city on the outside looking in. Mayor Gravitt, you should be careful what you wish for. Ego is ego and revenue is revenue. Sometimes you need to sacrifice one to satisfy the other.
