If boaters follow rules the lake will be safe

I owned a 40-foot boat that carried passengers on the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland for 15 years. I have never seen a boat run into another boat or seen a person killed by a boat.

The law is all about color. You cannot get a captain’s license if you are color blind. The most important thing on the water is the lights on your boat. When boats or ships meet head to head on water they pass on the left. Starboard to starboard, green light to green light, they never pass on the right as we have been told on TV.

We need law enforcement with a captain’s license that can enforce the law on Lake Lanier. Then the lake will be safe.
