GAINESVILLE - The Bulldogs’ starters held a 14-0 lead at halftime in a scrimmage Friday on the road.
“Overall, we played well,” Central head coach Frank Helper said.
Lambert 20, Alpharetta 20
The Longhorns trailed 20-3 at halftime but came back in the second half in a scrimmage Friday at The Horn.
Holy Innocents 35, Pinecrest Academy 0
ATLANTA - The Paladins never got anything going in head coach Terance Mathis’ unofficial debut in a scrimmage Friday on the road.
Instead, Pinecrest struggled against a Holy Innocents team led by Mathis’ predecessor, Todd Winter, who went 35-19 in five seasons with the Paladins before leaving this past spring to take the same job at Holy Innocents.
SOFTBALL
Newnan 9, North Forsyth 6
CARROLLTON – Mallorie Black went 2-for-3 with two home runs, including a grand slam, and five RBIs but it wasn’t enough as the Raiders dropped a non-region game on the road.
Mackenzie Marvin took the loss for North (1-0, 0-0 Region 5-7A). Sarah Lowe got the start and pitching four solid innings allowing three runs (two earned) on three hits and four walks.
Ansley Payne added a home run and RBI in going 3-for-3 on the day.
VOLLEYBALL
Lambert sweeps Brookwood, River Ridge
CANTON – Ally Hall had 16 kills and 25 assists as the Longhorns defeated Brookwood (25-18, 25-15) and River Ridge (25-14, 25-16) in non-area matches Friday at the Sequoyah Tournament.
Bella Talone added 14 kills and 14 digs for Lambert (2-0, 0-0 in Area 5-7A).
Madeleine Bertz led the team with 18 digs, while Lael White added 26 assists.
North sweeps Gainesville, Pinecrest
GAINESVILLE – Maddie Bryant had 24 kills, nine digs and four blocks and the Raiders swept Gainesville (25-16, 25-20) and Pinecrest Academy (25-12, 25-11) in non-area matches Thursday on the road.
Mary Ellen Enright added 18 kills and seven digs for North (4-0, 0-0 in Area 5-7A).
Marin Black had a team-high 22 digs, while Logan Taft led the team with 53 assists.
South swept by Cartersville, Northside
CANTON – Sydney Forrest had 17 kills and 14 digs but it wasn’t enough as the War Eagles lost to Cartersville (25-20, 19-25, 17-19) and Northside-Warner Robins (25-22, 20-25-11-15) in non-area matches Thursday at the Sequoyah Tournament.
Hannah McGlockton added 15 kills and 19 digs for South (1-4, 0-0 in Area 5-7A).
Nyah Pacely had a team-high 33 assists, while Jessica Beil led the team with 21 digs.
That followed a tri-match Thursday at Alpharetta that South split, defeating Woodstock (29-27-, 25-20) and losing to Alpharetta (11-25, 25-27) in non-area matches.
McGlockton led South with 26 kills and 23 digs, while Forrest added 19 kills, Pacely had a team-high 43 assists, Beil led the defense with 23 digs and Olivia Grady had a team-best 14 blocks.
West splits with North Hall, Winder Barrow
GAINESVILLE – The Wolverines defeated North Hall (20-25, 25-20, 26-24) and lost to Winder Barrow (20-25, 25-14, 24-26) in non-area matches Thursday on the road.
West is now 1-2 overall and 0-0 in Area 5-7A.
