PREP ROUNDUP: County baseball teams go 4-0 in Region 6-AAAAAA openers

Lambert 5, Centennial 0

Cole Varner was dealing on the mound for the Longhorns in their Region 6-AAAAAA opener Monday at home.

Varner struck out 10 in six scoreless innings for Lambert (4-3, 1-0).

Jake Tomelevage led the Longhorns at the plate with two doubles and two RBI, while Josh McAllister had two doubles and three runs scored.

North Forsyth 6, Alpharetta 0

Andrew Grogan was dominant on the mound as North cruised to a win Monday at home in its Region 6-AAAAAA opener.

Grogan allowed no runs on one hit with no walks in seven innings while striking out nine.

Tyler Koch led North (5-2, 1-0) at the plate going 2-for-3 with a home run. Parker Enright was 2-for-3 with two RBI, and Bailey Gerstner added two hits.

South Forsyth 13, Chattahoochee 7

JOHNS CREEK – Matt Cunningham went 2-for-4 with four RBI as the War Eagles earned a win Monday on the road in their Region 6-AAAAAA opener.

Alec Kliphouse got the win for South (6-1, 1-0), allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits and two walks while striking out three in six innings.

Brett Graczyk went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI, Connor McKnight had two RBI, Max Schmal had a double and RBI and the War Eagles also got RBIs from Matt Bapst and Kliphouse.

West Forsyth 5, Northview 3

Mason McWhorter’s walk-off two-run homer in extra-innings was the difference for the Wolverines in their Region 6-AAAAAA opener Monday at home.

Matthew Moch got the win for West (3-2, 1-0) pitching the eighth and ninth innings in relief of starter Hank Flood who went seven innings.

McWhorter’s heroics were set up by Bryar Hawkins’ lead-off double in the bottom of the ninth. McWhorter followed with an opposite field home run to end the game.


North Forsyth 10, Archer 5

LAWRENCEVILLE – Jacob Day made 11 saves as the Raiders earned a non-area victory Monday at home.

Chase Chapman led North (4-3, 0-3 3-AAAAAA) with four goals to go along with one assist, while Tucker Davis added two goals and Mason Jolley had one goal and two assists.

Sam Grogan, Evan Smith and Colton Rudd each had a goal and an assist, Quinn Lewis had an assist and Shaun Herock was 70 percent on faceoffs.

Mill Creek 13, South Forsyth 4

HOSCHTON – Kyle Frederiksen had two goals but it wasn’t enough as the War Eagles dropped a non-area game Monday on the road.

Andrew Lempner and Will Wykoff also had goals for South (2-4, 0-2 3-AAAAAA).

West Forsyth 13, Dunwoody 3

Justin Kabo had six goals and an assist as the Wolverines broke a two-game losing streak with a non-area victory Monday at home.

Jimmy Martelli added one goal and two assists for West (5-2, 1-1 3-AAAAAA).


Lambert 13, Starr’s Mill 10

Peyton Smith had five goals and four assists as the Lady Longhorns earned a non-area victory Monday at home.

Smith was one of seven scorers for Lambert (2-2, 1-0 3-AAAAAA). Alli Earwood and Geneva Rumer added two goals apiece.
