The Lambert, North Forsyth and South Forsyth wrestling teams competed on Saturday and Sunday at the Hook ‘Em Holiday Clash at Lambert. The Raiders were the lone team to have an individual winner during the tournament, with Tate Bissell taking the title at 145 pounds. The Raiders’ Paul Watkins took second place at 183, and South’s A.J. Riner was third at 126. North was the top team finisher, coming in 10th with 97.5 points, and South came in 11th with 95. Lambert was 23rd, with 47.5.
Forsyth Central had three individual champions at the ALX Invitational at Alexander High School: Abraham Perez at 120, Branden Redecker at 182 and Keaton Platzke at 195. The Bulldogs finished third overall in the team standings.
West Forsyth took eighth overall in the Deep South Bayou Duals in Louisiana over the weekend, beating St. Paul’s (Fla.) 45-24 in the opening dual before falling in its next two matches. In the pool stage of the tournament, the Wolverines started with two losses before winning their next three to secure a place in the championship bracket.
The North Forsyth boys basketball team won three games at the Model Big Blue Classic in Rome over the weekend to improve their record to 8-6. The Raiders beat Model 55-43, Calhoun 48-46, and Coosa 59-48.
The North Forsyth girls won two of their three games at the Carolina Invitational in Charleston, S.C. The Raiders beat Lexington (S.C.) 55-28, fell 44-43 to Bullitt East (Ky.) and finished with a 51-46 win over North Marion (W.V.), in which Caroline Martin led North with 18 points and Ali Jones had 12. The Raiders moved to 10-3 on the season after the tournament.
The West Forsyth boys won two of their three games at the KSA Holiday Tournament in Orlando, falling to Tate (Fla.) 69-62, beating Poinciana (Fla.) 46-42 and topping Cardinal Newman (Fla.) 60-57. The Wolverines, who improved to 6-9, were led by sophomore Broc Bidwell, who averaged 23 points per game through the tournament and was named tournament MVP.
The West Forsyth girls won two of their three games at the same tournament, beating Holton-Arms (Md.) 40-37, topping Eden (N.Y.) 59-22 and falling 56-43 to Boardman (Ohio). The Wolverines are now 8-7 on the season.
The South Forsyth boys took a win and two losses at the Hounds Holiday Hoops Classic at Pope. The War Eagles fell 58-47 to Riverwood before beating Banneker 73-65, led by Nate Hammond’s 20 pounds and a Devin McGlockton double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds. In their final game, the War Eagles lost to North Cobb 57-53, led by McGlockton’s 24-point performance. South moved to 8-8 on the season.
The Lambert boys moved to 14-3 with two wins and a loss at the Northwest Florida Shootout. The Longhorns beat Niceville (Fla.) 79-48, with Braxton Beaty scoring 19 points and grabbing eight rebounds, and followed that with a 75-59 win over St. Paul’s (La.), with Mitch Ganote scoring 20 points with 10 assists. The Longhorns ended the tournament with a 71-61 loss to Choctaw (Fla.), with Ganote scoring 21 with 11 rebounds and Colin Granger putting in 12 points with 12 rebounds.
The Lambert girls team lost two games and won one at the Sweet South Classic at Morgan County. The Longhorns fell 53-30 to Walnut Grove, led by Jenny McKenna’s 17 points, fell 70-32 to Morgan County, and ended the tournament with a 56-48 win over Clarke Central, with Ansley Dean tying a school record with six three-pointers and scoring 22 points to lead the Longhorns. Lambert is now 7-9 on the season.
The Pinecrest boys improved to 11-2 in a tournament at Social Circle, beating Northgate 58-42, with Caleb Bohn scoring 20 and Oscar Lynch dropping 19, and topping Lamar County 58-46.
The Denmark boys won twice to put their record at 12-3, beating Oconee 60-59 in overtime, led by 18 points from Sutton Smith, and beating George Walton Academy 61-38, led by 14 points from Ze’Vian Capers.
