PREP ROUNDUP: West, North, Denmark come away with spring break baseball wins

Pace (Fla.) 9, North Forsyth 2

The Raiders gave up nine runs over the first four innings against Pace on Tuesday, including five in the first inning. North was was never able to recover scoring just one in the third and seventh. Preston Hedelius and Tyler Triche each totaled RBIs for North in the loss.

Pine Forest (Fla.) 7, West Forsyth 5

The Wolverines played a close game with Pine Forest on Tuesday, tying the game at five with a three-run fifth inning with RBI hits from Matthew Strzelecki, Kyle Peterson and Tommy Smith. The Eagles retook the lead in the sixth, though, ultimately handing West its 13th loss of the season. Blake Whitfield started on the hill for the Wolverines, striking out four and allowing two earned runs over four innings.

Denmark 11, Tate (Fla.) 2

After falling behind by one in the first inning, the Danes tied the game at 1-1 in the second and took a lead they’d never give up in the third, ultimately coming away with a blowout win. Matthew Cassandra hit a home run and totaled four RBIs in his 2-for-4 day, and Jack Kream brought in three runs with his 5-for-5 performance. The Danes improved to 8-13 overall with the victory.

North Forsyth 11, Trinity (Ky.) 1

North took an easy win over their opponents from Kentucky on Wednesday, scoring at least two runs in each of the last four frames of the shortened six-inning game. Miles Hartsfield and Jess Ackerman each totaled two RBIs, while the trio of Brody Westbrooks, Hank Simonds and Anthony DiMola combined for 14 strikeouts and three hits allowed. The Raiders now stand at 15-8 overall.

Bolles (Fla.) 9, Lambert 1

The Longhorns struggled early against Bolles on Wednesday, allowing seven runs over the first three innings and ultimately allowing 16 hits. Lambert’s only run came in the first, when Nate Gabbert scored from third on a passed ball. Jack Fergusson accounted for two of the Longhorns’ three hits, going 2-for-4. Lambert dropped to 6-18 with the loss.

West Forsyth 3, Escambia (Fla.) 0

The Wolverines earned their first of two Wednesday wins on the backs of their pitching. Matthew Strzelecki, Wyatt Crowell and Luke Fernandez combined for seven innings, allowing just four hits and striking out eight. Tyler Shea and Luke Cartenuto brought in a run apiece.

West Forsyth 6, Milton (Fla.) 4

After a scoreless three innings to open the game, the Wolverines exploded for six runs in the fourth inning on Wednesday, with RBI singles from Rhett Williams, Blake Whitfield and Luke Cartenuto leading the way. That rally was enough to dispatch the Panthers, who scored four over their next three chances.

Orange Lutheran (Calif.) 8, South Forsyth 2

Competing as part of the prestigious National High School Invitational tournament in Cary, N.C., the War Eagles fell to a very good Orange Lutheran team on Wednesday. South tied the game at 2-2 in the third with an RBI double from Gehrig Frei and a sacrifice fly off the bat of Landon Sims, but the Lancers scored six unanswered runs from that point to earn the win. Frei led South with two hits, while Sims, Tyler Cowan and Peyton Rawlins each totaled one apiece.
