South girls, Lambert boys named teams of month for January

The South Forsyth girls’ basketball team and Lambert boys’ basketball team were named teams of the month for January by the Forsyth County Tip-off Club.

South’s Keith Gravitt and West’s Jim Cook were named the girls and boys coaches of the month, respectively.

The Lady War Eagles went 9-1 during January, including a 55-47 victory over Region 6-AAAAAA leader and county rival North Forsyth on Jan. 21.

The Longhorns went 10-1 during January and posted impressive wins over Centennial (75-68), Roswell (65-59) and Mount Vernon Presbyterian (54-50).

The Tip-off Club’s boys players of the month were: Cale Jackson and Josiah Laws from Forsyth Central; Joe Bates, Tanner Hall and Trevor Shipes from Lambert; Harris Roberts from North Forsyth; Adam Guard and Zayne Rice from Pinecrest Academy; Matt McCorkle from South Forsyth; and John Conway from West Forsyth.

The girls players of the month were: Julie Richards of Central; Corrie Baker and Leah Cote of Lambert; Kendall Bennett and Sydney Pefanis of North; Amanda Boyd of Pinecrest; KK Storms and Shelby Threlkeld of South; and Maddie O’Connor and Abby Quincy of West.
