Forsyth Central at Bob Blastow Early Bird
GIRLS: Bonnie McKinnon placed 18th in 20:26 as the Lady Bulldogs came in seventh out of 18 teams Saturday at the Bob Blastow Early Bird in Whitesburg.
Other strong runners for Central were Ashley Malone (50th, 21:51), Meredith Edwards (55th, 22:08), Lauren Springsteen (56th, 22:10) and Shana McLochlin (58th, 22:23).
BOYS: Will Hasse came in eighth in 16:18 at the Bulldogs finished second out of 24 teams Saturday.
Central also got strong runs from Cole Gizelbach (17th, 16:38), Max Warner (18th, 16:39), Charlie Webb (20th, 16:41) and Wes Bacastow (25th, 16:50).
Lambert at Saucony XC Kickoff Classic
GIRLS: Brianna O’Neal came in second in 19:21 to lead the Lady Longhorns to a first place finish out of 25 teams at the Saucony XC Kickoff Classic in Savannah.
Mae McKenna finished 10th (20:05), Kaylee Stiwill came in 12th (20:06), Katie Schwind finished 14th (20:35) and Elly Sherman came in 31st (21:33).
BOYS: Jonathan Schwind came in fifth in 15:57 as the Longhorns placed second out of six teams Saturday.
The Longhorns also got strong performances from Christopher Sharp (11th, 16:41), Brandon Burt (12th, 16:43), Tyler Fox (13th, 16:51) and Byron Grogan (16th, 16:57).
Pinecrest Academy at Wesleyan Invitational
GIRLS: Maria Carroll had a top-20 finish as the Lady Paladins came in ninth out of 11 teams at the Wesleyan Invitational in Norcross on Saturday.
Carroll’s time of 23:07 was good for 20th overall.
Pinecrest also got scoring times from Christina Aufleger (56th, 25:50), Meghan Jennings (58th, 26:01), Samhita Mallavarapu (80th, 29:42) and Abbie Guard (82nd, 30:02.42).
BOYS: Joel Parker came in 59th in 21:03 as the Paladins finished 11th.
Garrett Ruf (76th, 21:46), Grant Mulac (77th, 21:49), Dominic Piron (80th, 22:11) and Colby Mangan (84th, 22:21) also scored for Pinecrest.
South Forsyth at Bob Blastow Early Bird
GIRLS: Savannah Carnahan ran 17:47 to finish first out of 149 runners at the Bob Blastow Early Bird on Saturday in Whitesburg.
South also got top-10 finished from Kaylee Dupont (fifth, 19:23) and Milicent Bergey (10th, 19:52), as the Lady War Eagles in second out of 18 teams.
South also got strong runs from Emma Maisel (16th, 20:09) and Jordan Mund (27th, 20:52).
BOYS: Matt Patterson came in sixth in 16:12 to help the War Eagles placed third out of 24 teams Saturday.
South also got strong runs from Luke Francis (28th, 16:52), Trevor Kane (33rd, 17:02), Collin Smith (35th, 17:04) and Nicholas Warner (42nd, 17:19).
West Forsyth at Spikes and Spurs Classic
GIRLS: The Lady Wolverines had four runners place in the top 15 to win their second consecutive meet this season Saturday at the Spikes and Spurs Classic in Bunnell, Florida.
Reagan Poteet was the top finisher for West, coming in eighth in 20:16, but she was closely followed by teammates Mallory Luskus (10th, 20:17), Julie Ericson (12th, 20:30), Amanda MacArthur (13th, 20:34) and Madison Bowers (25th, 21:21).
BOYS: West senior John Green won the Spikes and Spurs Classic on Saturday in 16:01.
Green helped the Wolverines place sixth out of 17 teams.
West also got strong showings from Matt Bissett (26th, 17:24), Nick Lyon (45th, 17:58), Brock Nordin (55th, 18:12) and Jason Patskanick (68th, 18:25).
Horizon Christian 42, Augusta 14
Jacob Grinstead threw for five touchdowns and rushed for another as Horizon Christian Academy cruised to a 42-14 victory against Augusta on Saturday in a non-region game at home.
Grinstead completed 10 of 14 passes for 301 yards with touchdown throws of 2, 35, 24, 33 and 75 yards. Grinstead added a 23-yard touchdown run, a score that capped a dominant second quarter in which Horizon (2-0) extended an 8-6 first quarter lead to 35-6 at halftime.
Dillon Taylor caught three passes for 161 yards and two touchdowns. Ty Logan, John Michael Booth and Cole Brown each caught one touchdown pass.
Horizon out-gained Augusta, 471-229.
Meanwhile, the Warriors’ defense forced six turnovers. Daniel Durnwald had three interceptions, Logan had two and Brown forced a fumble.
South Forsyth splits non-region games
The Lady War Eagles defeated Buford, 3-1, in nine innings Saturday, to claim a victory against a Lady Wolves team that’s won eighth straight state championships in AA (20007-11), AAA (2012-13) and AAAA (2014).
Katherine Huey got the win for South (8-2, 6-0 Region 6-AAAAAA), pitching all nine innings.
The Lady War Eagles then lost to Milton in the second game of a doubleheader.
South Forsyth wins Georgia Challenge
ALPHARETTA – Amanda Nugent had 58 kills as the Lady War Eagles went 6-0 to win the Georgia Challenge Volleyball Tournament on Saturday at the Southern Volleyball Center.
South (15-3) defeated Galloway (25-5, 25-13), Collins Hill (25-18, 25-8), Norcross (27-25, 26-24), Alpharetta (25-18, 18-25, 15-5), Sandy Creek (25-8, 25-15) and Etowah (25-23, 18-25, 15-13).
Erin Yeatman had 101 digs during the tournament, while Courtney Darling had 146 assists.
The wins catapulted South up to the No. 2 ranking in Class AAAAAA by MaxPreps.
