How to celebrate Veterans Day, plus local deals for veterans in Cumming, Forsyth County

As America gets ready to celebrate Veterans Day, locals have their own ways of celebrating the county’s veterans.

Below are events, celebrations and promotions being held for Veterans Day.

City of Cumming’s Veterans Day Celebration

When: 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., on Monday, Nov. 11

Where: City of Cumming’s Veterans War Memorial, 301 Veterans Memorial Boulevard, or at the Cumming Fairgrounds covered arena, 235 Castleberry Road, if it is raining.

What’s going on: The annual celebration is being organized this year by the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 1030 and will feature keynote speaker Army Brig. Gen. Thomas H. Blackstock, Jr. The event will feature patriotic songs, programs and remarks from local schools, the honor guards of the county sheriff’s office and fire department and Mayor Troy Brumbalow. The event will also feature the city’s Avenue of Flags, which are dedicated in memory of local veterans.

RESTAURANTS

Below are some of the local restaurants that will be offering free meals or specials for Veterans Day.

Applebee’s (504 Lakeland Plaza) – Veterans and active duty military can purchase a free meal from a limited menu with proof of service. 

Chili’s (874 Buford Road) – Veterans can get a free meal at Chili’s from a limited menu.

Cracker Barrel Old Country Store (675 Buford Highway) – On Veterans Day, veterans and active duty military can get a free iced or hot pumpkin pie latte or a slice of Double Chocolate Fudge Coca-Cola Cake.

Golden Corral (2025 Market Place Boulevard) – Golden Corral will host a free sit-in dinner for military veterans, retirees and active duty.

Grub Burger Bar (410 Peachtree Parkway, Ste. 204) – All active, inactive and retired military members with either a valid military ID or uniform can grab a free entrée.

Little Caesar’s (580 Atlanta Road and 3280 Keith Bridge Road) – Veterans and active duty military members can receive a free four-slice, deep-dish pepperoni pizza with a 20 oz. drink from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

O’Charley’s (920 Buford Road) – Active and retired military can receive a free meal from a special menu on Veterans Day with military ID.

Red Robin (370 Peachtree Parkway) – The restaurant will be giving out free double burger with bottomless fries meals with proof of service.

RETAIL

Like restaurants, some stores will also be offering discounts to military members and veterans.

Academy Sports + Outdoors (320 Peachtree Parkway) – Veterans, active-service and family members can get a 10% discount on purchases in-store or online through Veterans Day.

Great Clips (several locations across the county) – Veterans and active-duty military can receive a haircut or voucher for haircut at a later date for Veterans Day.

Sports Clips (3105 Peachtree Parkway Ste. 102 and 1574 Market Place Boulevard) – Sports Clips will offer free haircuts for veterans and active-duty on Veterans Day.

Target (1525 Market Place Boulevard and 2625 Peachtree Parkway) – From Sunday, Nov. 3 until Veterans Day, active-duty, veterans, reservists and dependents will receive a 10% discount for in-store and online purchases. 

Verizon – TCC Cumming, located at 3647 Browns Bridge Road, Ste.  100B, will host a veterans’ appreciation event from Saturday, Nov. 9 through Veterans Day with giveaway items and a chance to win a flight to Washington, D.C. to visit national memorials.
