How to help children 'Sleep in Heavenly Peace'
Sleep in Heavenly Peace
A build a bed event will be held at 8 a.m. Saturday at the Lowe’s in Cumming, 935 Market Place Blvd.

If you are looking for something charitable to do this Father’s Day weekend, a volunteer opportunity coming to Forsyth County from the Dawsonville group, Sleep in Heavenly Peace, should be top of your list.

According to Chapter President Skip Sevier, on Saturday, June 15, the group will be hosting an event to build dozens of twin and bunk beds for north Georgia children in need.

“We organize sponsored ‘bed builds’ and build twin and bunk beds, which we equip with mattresses, pillows and linens and give them away to kids who don't have beds,” Sevier said. “Although we're based in Dawsonville we cover children in need in Dawson, Lumpkin and north Forsyth County.”

Sevier said that the bed build is being held as part of a nationwide event by Sleep in Heavenly Peace, and said that they hope to make more than 100 beds at their chapter’s event. Similar builds will happen simultaneously, all over the country.

The event will be held at 8 a.m. at the Lowe’s in Cumming, 935 Market Place Blvd.

Sevier said that potential volunteers are urged to register online before the event by visiting https://bit.ly/shpvolunteers. But if that’s not possible, he said that they will be able to register people at the event.

He said that on the day of the build, volunteers should wear work clothes, a sun hat and bring something cold to drink.
