A two-vehicle wreck involving a scooter claimed the life of a 21-year-old Forsyth County woman Monday.

Kirsti Sue Baiel died as a result of massive trauma at Northside Hospital-Forsyth a few hours after the collision, according to Doug Rainwater, a spokesman for the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office.

“Next of kin have been notified and were at the hospital with her when she passed away,” Rainwater said.

The collision occurred about 10:45 a.m. on Spot Road at McCoy Circle, northwest of Cumming, according to the sheriff’s office.

Baiel was driving a scooter south on McCoy when she was struck by a Chrysler 300 heading west on Spot. Baiel was wearing a helmet.

Rainwater said the driver of the Chrysler, 20-year-old Christopher Rubessa of Forsyth County, was not injured in the collision.

As of Tuesday afternoon, no charges had been filed in connection with the crash.

“The investigation is being [conducted] currently by our traffic unit,” Rainwater said. “They’re still trying to piece it together.”

Spot Road was closed for nearly two hours following the wreck before reopening about 12:30 p.m.

The wreck was the first fatality on Forsyth County roads this month and ninth of the year, according to authorities.
