10-year-old, man recovered from water at Lake Lanier Islands, transported to hospital
Lake Lanier

Two people, including a 10-year-old child, were taken to the hospital Thursday in serious condition after they were recovered from the water at Lake Lanier Islands, according to authorities.

Hall County Fire Services responded around 3 p.m. to Margaritaville at Lanier Islands.

“Arriving units found an approximately 10-year-old juvenile and parent who were recovered from the water. Both patients are being transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville in serious condition,” Capt. Zachary Brackett wrote in an email.

Brackett wrote that, “The father noticed that the son had not surfaced and went into the lake to find him. He then went under water. Life guards and/or bystanders located the juvenile and started rendering aid. The father was then located and removed from the water and (given) aid.”

Brackett said the man is 30 years old and is the child’s father, but the captain did not provide any further details.

The boy was later flown to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.

The Georgia Department of Natural Resources is handling the investigation.
