Accident

NORTH FORSYTH – Three children and two adults were injured after a garbage truck rear-ended a minivan in north Forsyth Monday afternoon.

Shortly before 2 p.m. on June 12, a silver Honda Odyssey and an Advanced Disposal garbage truck were travelling west on Matt Highway (Hwy. 369) by River Hill Commons Drive when the collision occurred, according to Forsyth County Fire Department Division Chief Jason Shivers.

The adult driver of the Honda and three child passengers were taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center with what were described as non-life threatening injuries. Shivers confirmed one child was 5 years old but could not confirm the other ages.

“They were all stable with varying levels of injury,” Shivers said. “The [garbage truck] driver was slightly injured but refused transport.”

Shivers said the truck was headed towards Eagle Point Landfill when the crash occurred, though it was not immediately known whether the vehicle was carrying anything because nothing spilled onto the roadway.

Matt Hwy. was shut down briefly. It was not immediately known whether either party will face charges.
