Nonprofit supports at-risk young women

CUMMING -- Jesse’s House will hold its Fairy Tale Dash 5K walk and run Saturday to benefit girls served by the nonprofit.

The event will be held at Fowler Park at 8 a.m. and is a 2017 Peachtree Road Race qualifier.

Jesse’s House is a nonprofit that provides emergency and long-term care to young women who have suffered abuse or delinquency.

Since it was established in 1998, it has taken in more than 550 girls from 21 counties across the greater Atlanta area.

The shelter has three main goals: serve high-risk girls between the ages of 7 and 17 who are referred from the Department of Family and Children’s Services or Department of Juvenile Justice; to reunite shelter residents with their families whenever possible; and to provide a safe house until permanent placement is found.

The event will help the “princesses in distress.”
