About 20 purebred dogs seized from an alleged Forsyth County "puppy mill" in early March were adopted Tuesday from the Humane Society of Hall County.

Rick Aiken, president of the humane society, said another 20 or so still are available for adoption by the general public.

They are on view in the regular kennel area of the Hall County Animal Shelter, but are priced at $200 rather than the usual fee of $75.

First choice of the dogs, which are all small breeds, was given to people who signed up last Friday and came back for adoption appointments Tuesday.

"Some didn’t see what they were looking for and did not adopt," Aiken said.

He said one woman camped out all night Thursday so she could be the first to register Friday morning. She ended up getting the dachshund she wanted.

Aiken said there are several more "puppy mill" dogs that are not yet ready for adoption. One is "extremely pregnant," and others are still shy and need more socialization.
