The Forsyth County Fire Department will join more than 100 fire departments across Georgia on Saturdays this month to help “Give Burns the Boot” during an annual fundraiser.
Starting this Saturday, motorists can expect to see firefighters at intersections throughout the county. They’ll also be out on May 11 and 18.
Donations collected during the boot drive will go to the Georgia Firefighters Burn Foundation. The funds will be used for fire safety and prevention education, to support medical facilities and assist burn survivors as they recover.
Proceeds also will go to Camp Oo-U-La, Georgia’s only camp for burn-injured children.
New this year is the option to donate online via the Georgia Firefighters Burn Foundation virtual boot drive. Visit www.giveburnstheboot.org and look for the Forsyth County Fire Department page.
A portion of the total funds raised will be returned to the local fire department to support local fire prevention and education efforts.
Fire Chief Danny Bowman said local firefighters are “privileged to serve in a giving community.”
“Through their generous contributions during the boot drive, our citizens demonstrate their compassion for Georgia’s burn victims,” he said.
