BUFORD — A woman who died Sunday after being found unresponsive in Lake Lanier has been identified as a Buford woman.

Susan Button, 61, was with other family preparing for a day on the lake with their boat, according to Hall County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Nicole Bailes.

“My understanding was that family members located her floating face-down near the boat dock,” Bailes said.

The dock was in an area off Lakeview and Woodlake drives in southern Hall County, near the Gwinnett County line.

According to Bailes, the family members removed the woman from the water.

“Rescue efforts were performed on [her] until medical personnel could arrive on scene,” Bailes said.

Button was pronounced dead upon arriving at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville.

“We are still investigating as to how [she] wound up in the lake,” Bailes said.

An autopsy likely will take place this week, although “there were no obvious signs of foul play,” she said.
