EAST FORSYTH — Traffic was delayed Wednesday afternoon as crews worked a wreck on Buford Dam Road.

According to the Forsyth County Fire Department, the road was closed both ways as crews repaired a section of guardrail damaged by a single-vehicle accident. The driver was taken to North Fulton Hospital with what were described as minor injuries.

The vehicle was traveling into the county before hitting the guardrail and sliding an estimated 50 yards down an embankment towards Lake Lanier.

Neighborhoods on Buford Dam were still accessible, and the closure began near Sawnee Campground, Division Chief Jason Shivers said.

Crews with the Army Corps of Engineers handled repair work.

Work lasted until late afternoon Sept. 21.

With construction ongoing on Buford Highway (Hwy. 20), Buford Dam Road has become a popular cut-through for those going in and out of the county.

The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office recommend taking Buford Highway as the wreck was cleared.
