3 Forsyth County restaurants fail health inspection

Three restaurants in Forsyth County, one in south Forsyth, one in Cumming and one in Vickery Village, received failing grades from the Forsyth County Environmental Health Department in November.

Ichiban Buffet, located at 655 Atlanta Road in the Lanier Crossing Shopping Center, was given a 37 on Nov. 29 for having improper management and hand-to-food contact.

According to the inspection report, the violations considered to be a “known risk factor for foodborne illness” were: no person in charge present to demonstrate knowledge and perform duties; bare hand contact with ready-to-eat foods or approved alternate method improperly followed; management was not knowledgeable in their responsibilities or reporting; and inadequate handwashing facilities.

A 69 or below is failing.

Other violations included: response procedures for vomiting and diarrheal events; required records for shellstock tags and parasite destruction; food not separated or protected; food surfaces not cleaned or sanitized; no consumer advisory or raw or undercooked foods; improper hot holding temperatures; thawing methods not approved; wiping clothes not improperly used and stored; and hot and cold water not available with adequate pressure.

The restaurant was re-inspected on Dec. 12 and given an 85.

As of that inspection, the violations included: improper hot holding temperatures; contamination not prevented during food preparation, storage and display, wiping cloths improperly used and stored; and permit/inspection/choking poster/handwashing poster not up.

Enzo Sushi

Also given a failing score was Enzo Sushi (JJUN Corporation), located at 3630 Peachtree Parkway at the corner of McGinnis Ferry Road.

The eatery’s score of 46 on Nov. 8 had violations known to be a risk for foodborne illnesses, including: no person in charge present to demonstrate knowledge and perform duties; three violations of hands not being clean or properly washed; improper eating, tasting, drinking or tobacco use; and two violations of inadequate handwashing facilities.

Other violations included: food obtained from unapproved source; required records for shellstock tags and parasite destruction; personal cleanliness; wiping cloths not improperly used and stored; in-use utensils improperly stores; nonfood-contact surfaces not clean; and insects, rodents or animals present.

After being re-inspected on Nov. 21, the business received a 72.

As of that inspection, violations included: three instances of hands not being clean or properly washed; food obtained from unapproved source; required records for shellstock tags and parasite destruction; two instances of toxic substances not being properly identified, stored or used; and in-use utensils not being improperly stored.

Cinco Mexican Cantina

Cinco Mexican Cantina also failed their inspection, receiving a score of 67 on Nov. 16.

Located at 5755 N. Vickery St., the restaurant received the following foodborne illness risk violations: person in charge not present to demonstrate knowledge or perform duties; two occurrences of hands not being clean or properly washed; and bare hand contact with ready-to-eat food or unapproved alternative method.

Other violations included: food-contact surfaces not clean and sanitized; improper cooling time and temperature; and single-use/single-service articles improperly stored or used.

Cinco was re-inspected on Dec. 2 and received a 100.
