CUMMING — Sawnee Electric Membership Corporation is accepting applications for two youth education programs.

Applicants for the annual Washington Youth Tour for junior and seniors in high school must live in a residence served by Sawnee EMC, turn 16 by June 1, 2016, and be able to commit to the tour on June 9-16.

Two students will participate in an all-expenses paid, weeklong trip to Washington, D.C., where they will have the opportunity to join hundreds of other students from Georgia and the country to see the U.S. Capitol and other major monuments and museums.

They will also meet state and national leaders and undergo leadership training.

The application deadline for the Washington trip is 5 p.m. Feb. 12.

Applications can be downloaded from sawnee.com/Washington and should be mailed to Sawnee EMC, Attn: Cindy Badgett, P.O. Box 266, Cumming, GA 30028.

“It is such a privilege for Sawnee EMC to be able to assist these students in furthering their education,” said Badgett, who is the director of external affairs for the utility.

In a separate program, high school seniors who are children of Sawnee EMC members can apply to the Youth Scholarship program until 5 p.m. Jan. 22.

This scholarship is to be used at an accredited college, university or technical school.

Applicants must complete two essays, the topics for which are noted on the application.

Finalists will be required to come to Cumming-based Sawnee EMC for a short personal interview.

Additional important information needed includes: school, community and work activities listed in a resume format; copies of recent transcripts; and letters of recommendation as mentioned on the application.

Applications can be found and downloaded from sawnee.com/scholarships.

Completed applications should be mailed to Sawnee Electric Membership Corporation, Attn: Cindy Badgett, P.O. Box 1174, Cumming, GA 30028.
