The Metropolitan North Georgia Water Planning District is seeking interested residents from Forsyth County to serve on the Lake Lanier Basin Advisory Council.
The council is one of six in the 15-county region that helps develop and implement water resource plans for the region.
The Metro Water District encourages residents to apply as well as people who represent environmental, business, real estate, recreation, neighborhood, development, agriculture, utility, academic, water resources and other interests.
The application deadline is May 1.
Applicants must live within the Lanier basin. Members serve two-year terms and may be reappointed.
Councils hold regular quarterly meetings but may also hold special meetings as needed to provide input on district activities and actions.
The district is the planning organization dedicated to developing comprehensive regional and watershed-specific water resources plans for local governments.
These plans protect water quality and public water supplies in and downstream of the region. They also protect recreational values of the waters and minimize potential adverse impacts of development.
The application for Basin Advisory Council membership is available on the Metro Water District’s Web site, www.northgeorgiawater.org/bac. For more information, contact the Metro Water District at (404) 463-3344 or comments@northgeorgiawater.com.
