Whether the field needs to be rectangular, square or circular, Forsyth County is prepared to host almost any sporting event.
This was recently acknowledged by SportsEvents Media Group, which named the Cumming-Forsyth County Chamber of Commerce as one of SportsEvents magazine’s 2017 Readers’ Choice Award winners.
The media group is one of the leading industry publications that focuses on helping sports event planners produce competitions in the United States.
Winners will be announced in the January 2017 issue of SportsEvents.
“Sports event professionals were asked to nominate destinations and sports venues that they believe displayed exemplary creativity and professionalism toward the groups they host,” a news release said. “Nominations were received from readers throughout the year, and the top picks were selected based on results from an online voting system.”
James McCoy, president and CEO of the Chamber, said he credits the win to the county’s high level of sporting engagement.
“It’s really based on the opinions of the readership of the publication, but I suspect the [win] is due to the diversity of sports events in the county,” he said. “We have everything from a rectangular field or diamond field to a circular cricket field, which adds diversity.”
The county recently broke ground on seven cricket fields in north Forsyth, the first of their kind in the state.
“It is clear, based on our readers’ experiences, that these award winners are willing to go above and beyond typical service levels to help sports event planners produce outstanding events that participants, their families and spectators will want to experience again and again,” said John Rezell, one of SportsEvents’ executive editors. “It is our privilege to announce their selection by sports event planners as among the best in the United States.”
McCoy said he often receives positive feedback about the county’s sporting amenities.
“Everybody has a different view of what they enjoy, but feedback we get about the amenities, especially the parks and recreation amenities, is that they are world-class,” he said. “Also, the access to the lake, Sawnee Mountain and other things people do when they’re not playing or watching games is top-notch and puts us in line with other top-notch communities.”
The new cricket fields will add to the county’s high-end amenities, with a planned 10,000-square-foot clubhouse that will have changing rooms, a conference room, a concession stand and a 5,000-square- foot banquet hall to host events.
