Collection drive gathers kids' shoes

Mende’s ATA Martial Arts will be collecting new children’s shoes through the end of August.

The martial arts school is participating in the Orphans Souls program, a ministry of Buckner International and Moody Radio.

According to a release from Mende’s, the program provides shoes and socks for orphans and other vulnerable children throughout the world.

Athletic shoes in children’s sizes 1 to 7 are most needed.

New shoes will be collected through Aug. 31 at the store, which is in the Publix shopping center at Bethelview and Castleberry roads.

Shoes can be dropped off from noon-9 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 3 to 9 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday.
