The debut of Flavors of Forsyth far exceeded organizers' expectations, drawing more than 10,000 people to The Avenue Forsyth.

The crowd for the Thursday night fundraiser, which offered food and fun to benefit the United Way of Forsyth County, was double the projected turnout.

Sales exceeded the 80,000 food tickets printed for the event, said Megan Jurkovic, marketing manager for The Avenue, with each ticket worth 50 cents.

"I'm still kind of buzzing from it," she said. "It just exploded. We were so happy with the event."

The United Way was still tabulating the results late Friday.

Among the nearly 30 participating restaurants, Fagan's Biscuit Barn took the coveted People's Choice Award.

Jurkovic said the outdoor shopping center on Peachtree Parkway plans to grow the fundraiser.

"We knew we wanted to create an event that would be a signature draw for years to come," she said.
